Boehner: Another Example of Democrats' 'Washington Knows Best' Attitude, and Its Disastrous Consequences for American Jobs

WASHINGTON, March 30 /Standard Newswire/ -- House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement today on President Obama signing the "reconciliation" legislation on health care and student loans:

"Today, the President will sign not one, but two job-killing government takeovers that are already hurting our economy.  Employers across the country are continuing to reveal the costly fallout from 'ObamaCare' - including new tax hikes and mandates that make it harder to hire new workers, and put health care benefits promised to workers and retirees in jeopardy.  As the White House continues to 'sell' this new law, we are seeing the same pattern we've seen for the past year:  the more the American people learn about it, the less they like it.

"In addition, the government takeover of the student loan industry threatens hundreds of jobs in America's heartland.  This is just another example of Democrats' 'Washington knows best' attitude, and its disastrous consequences for American jobs.  Republicans will fight to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with common-sense reforms that focus on lowering health care costs while protecting American jobs."

In a memo sent to House Republicans last Thursday, Leader Boehner urged Republicans to focus on the economy as they discuss the new health care law with their constituents during the congressional district work period.  In the memo, entitled "Where are the Jobs?  Not in President Obama's Health Care Law," Boehner echoed more than 100 economists who have warned that President Obama's massive new law will hurt the economy and make job creation more difficult at a time of nearly double-digit unemployment.

NOTE: Today Prudential joined a long list of employers including AT&T, AK Steel, 3M, Caterpillar, Deere, and Valero Energy that have felt an immediate squeeze because of ObamaCare's job-killing tax increases and health care cost hikes.
