WASHINGTON, April 23 /Standard Newswire/ -- House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) responded today to an analysis by the Obama Administration's Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) showing that President Obama's new health care law falls well short of his pledge to "bend the cost curve." According to this report, Washington Democrats' government takeover of health care -- which was signed into law one month ago today -- actually increases national health care costs over the next 10 years by $311 billion. CMS also determined that the new law will force more than seven million seniors off their current Medicare coverage.
Boehner issued the following statement:
- "This Obama Administration report confirms that Washington Democrats' government takeover of health care fails to deliver the one thing the American people wanted out of reform: lower costs.
"According to his own administration's analysis, the health care law the President signed one month ago today would violate his pledge to 'bend the cost curve' and force millions of seniors off their current Medicare coverage. This is in addition to what we already know about how this new law is squeezing employers with job-killing tax hikes and leaving middle-class families to brace for higher premiums. That's why Republicans are fighting to repeal this job-killing health care law and replace it with reforms focused first on lowering costs and protecting jobs.
"Washington Democrats refused to wait for this critical analysis to be completed before forcing their job-killing health care bill through Congress, and now we know why."
