RNC Members to Steele: No Bucks for Charlie Baker
Contact: Steve Scheffler, 515-971-7363
MEDIA ADVISORY, May 12 /Standard Newswire/ -- Today eight members of the Republican National Committee signed a letter to Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele asking him not to support Massachusetts Republican nominee Charlie Baker with any party funds.
The letter states, "It is our view that (Baker-Tisei) hold views so out of step with the Republican Party platform that they should not receive any financial support from the Republican National Committee."
Republican National Committeeman Steve Scheffler said today, "The RGA just spent $1 million trying to elect a liberal Governor with an ultra-liberal running mate and in doing so they gave the incumbent Democrat a 10 point bounce. It is outrageous that the Republican Governor's Association would spend a dime on behalf of a ticket as liberal as Charlie Baker and Richard Tisei's.
"Baker and Tisei are open in their contempt for conservatives. Baker calls himself a 'Weld Republican.' Weld endorsed Barack Obama in 2008. Baker's running mate is worse--he's got a 100 percent NARAL rating, is the sponsor of a Transgender Bathroom Bill, and has voted against tax cuts. There is no way the RNC or any other Party organization should be committing resources to support this radical ticket. Anyone seeking the Republican Nomination in 2012 should steer clear of Charlie Baker on the way to Iowa. "
