Fr. Edward Looney Releases Travel Memoir 'Places of Grace'

GREEN BAY, Wisc., July 15, 2024 /Standard Newswire/ -- "Places of Grace: My Visits to Shrines, Chapels, Graves, and Monasteries, and the Graces I Received" is a roadmap for holy pilgrimage destinations mapped out by Fr. Edward Looney, a Catholic priest of the Diocese of Green Bay and a popular author, podcaster and evangelist. Places of Grace is now available for purchase through Amazon here.

"For years I have visited many well-known and also unknown places of Catholicism throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, the UK, and Ireland," said Father Edward Looney. "I love to share the places I have visited though pictures and videos on social media and YouTube in my series called Fr. Edward Visits. These holy visits are now being shared in my latest book and I hope to inspire the faithful and curious alike to encounter God through pilgrimage to these holy places of grace."

Fr. Edward Looney's latest work is self-published with his imprint Bon Secours Books. Author, Journalist, and Publicist Alexis Walkenstein wrote the foreword to the book.

The idea for Places of Grace was sparked by a Lenten talk that Fr. Looney presented to a priest retreat. He shared the basis for the talk on social media, and many people commented wanting to hear the talk. From those requests, a book idea was born.

"Right after preaching that retreat, I was in an airport heading to another event, and while sipping on coffee and eating breakfast, I began writing the first few reflections," said Father Looney. "It would take a whole year to finish the manuscript, picking it up occasionally in between other projects."

The goal of Places of Grace is to equip visitors to holy places in their awareness of what God wants to do for them in that place and to enter into the moment of grace. Fr. Looney recounts an experience in England: "When I was in Canterbury, people would hurry by the spot of St. Thomas Becket's martyrdom. They would take their selfie and keep moving. There was no pause to remember the fact that an archbishop died on that spot, and as a saint, now inspires and intercedes for us." Places of Grace helps us to realize the tangible grace of the place we visit, and the graces one receives from God through saintly intercession.

In the travelogue Fr. Looney shares the graces God gave him during his visits to Marian apparition sites, Marian shrines, saint shrines, churches, monasteries, and graves of holy men and women.

"The grace you and I receive from these encounters might not be the same," said Father Looney. "But grace exists when we move toward God, Mother Mary and the saints. Through this book and its specific call to action -- literally -- I pray that everyone who reads it will be open to the specific grace God has for them."

Fr. Looney is available for media interviews for print, web, radio, and television.
