ST. PAUL, Minn, Aug. 28, 2025 /Standard Newswire/ — In the wake of the horrific mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School, local clergy and faith leaders will gather for a Vigil and Call for Bipartisan Action on Gun Violence this Friday, August 29th, 2025, at 9:00 AM local time at the Minnesota State Capitol, University Street side (75 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.).

The service is organized to mourn the lives lost, pray for the wounded and their families, and demand concrete, cross-partisan legislative action to prevent future tragedies.

Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Washington, D.C.-based Christian Defense Coalition, states:

"Our faith compels us to pray for all those profoundly impacted by this tragedy. As Christians, we are also called to stand against the senseless violence that continues to terrorize our schools and churches. As people of God, we are called to be a voice for the voiceless and a shield for the vulnerable.

"It would be a profound moral failure for the Minnesota Legislature to allow partisan divides to stand in the way of protecting innocent lives. We must come together—Democrats and Republicans, urban and rural—to pass common-sense legislation that protects our children and our communities. As the Bible says, we must demand justice for the oppressed, and on this day, we are raising our voices to say we will be a bold public witness to end gun violence."

"The tragedy at Annunciation Catholic School is a wound on the entire Body of Christ. It is an act of evil that transcends political labels and shatters the peace of our sanctuaries. We must reject the urge to weaponize this tragedy for political gain and instead come together in a spirit of shared moral outrage. This vigil is a time for us to transform our grief into a powerful call for bipartisan action.

"We are inviting our elected officials to join us in a space of prayer, not partisanship, to find real solutions. The time for delay is over. We must work together to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. We must also empower law enforcement with the tools to act earlier when a known threat emerges, protecting schools, churches, hospitals, and our public spaces from future violence. We must make sure vulnerable locations are safely protected and provide the long term support these communities need. Let our actions be a witness to a Kingdom that values every life."

The vigil will feature a 20-minute, multi-faith liturgy, followed by press comments from a small group of local clergy who will share personal stories and call for unity in action. All are asked to arrive by 8:30 AM to gather in solidarity.
