SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Aug. 7, 2023 /Standard Newswire/ -- A broken heart, bankruptcy and back surgery didn't prevent God from using Monty Rieck for a higher purpose. Rieck, author of the autobiography I Am Eli, announces the sequel Eli's Road Less Traveled: Hanging Up My Spurs, and Hanging Onto Jesus, will be published on Monday, August 7.

This second book in The Cowboy Preacher Series share's Rieck's faith-filled journey, experiencing triumph through tragic events. Although he had to put his rodeo dreams to bed, Rieck found a new calling that the devil didn't like. Facing incredible difficulties like dealing with spousal infidelity, divorce and becoming a single father to three rambunctious boys, God used Rieck to bring many to saving faith in Jesus Christ.

"I read this book in one sitting," said Dean Wilson, president and CEO of The Turner Foundation. "Monty allows us to walk alongside him through great personal suffering and loss. And he does it with hope. Why? Because of Jesus. This book series is a testament to the grace and goodness of our God…a God who can do anything."

Rieck recounts how God moved him to share the gospel with old friends, homeless, drug addicts and alcoholics while recovering from debilitating back surgery which prevented him from earning a living. Through it all, God blessed Monty and gave him a new calling.

Eli's Road Less Traveled picks up where the first book in the series, I Am Eli, leaves off. In I Am Eli, Rieck explains how God never gave up on him while he chased dreams of becoming a professional rodeo cowboy. Along the way, he drank heavily, did drugs, nearly died and made other bad decisions. Yet, God had plans for him, eventually chasing Rieck down with His loving, saving grace -- which changed everything including a new identity.

A retired, fourth-generation plumber, Rieck resides in Santa Barbara with his wife Heidi, where he attends Calvary Chapel Santa Barbara, and is teaching himself to play the fiddle. Between he and his wife, they have eight children and twelve cherished grandchildren. Subscribe to Monty's news at cowboypreacher.us.
