Conservative Elite's Majoritarian Collectivism Got Democrats Elected
Majoritarian collectivism – raw democracy – is the unconstitutional tyranny of "two wolves and one sheep voting on what to have for dinner." True conservatives view government's role as providing for the protection of Individuals' rights – constitutional republicanism – even from majoritarian tyranny. In times past, when the GOP was in the Congressional minority, the conservative elite used to remember that important republican axiom of limited government. But during their newly-obtained majority between 1994 and 2006, they transformed into majoritarian collectivists themselves. By becoming such democrats, it was undoubtedly inevitable that the actual Democrat Party would re-take the Congressional majorities – as occurred in the November 7, 2006 election.
Ignoring true conservative voices, the conservative elite's "sickness" was manifest - symptoms abounded.
On September 29, 2006, Rep. Mark Foley was outed – and resigned - for sending salacious homosexual messages to underaged male congressional pages. Moreover, potential GOP-leadership cover-up in that case was also implicated, further staining the whole Party.
By October 15, 2006, David Kuo, an evangelical Christian and former insider to President Bush's administration, published a new book, revealing how the GOP leadership viewed evangelical Christians as "nuts."
And in the final week before the election, Ted Haggard, a renowned pastor and leader of the 30-million member strong National Association of Evangelicals, was outed – and repentantly resigned – for having alleged secret, drug-enhanced, homosexual liaisons with a male "masseur."
Symptoms of the elite's "sickness" were visibly pervasive long before the election, too. Such examples include the criminal Jack Abramoff lobbying-corruption scandal, the GOP "earmarking" increased "pork-barrel" spending in numerous bills, the failure to correct the "Ponzi Scheme" called Social Security, and the failure to fix the immigration problem.
That the liberal media had indeed worked against them was mostly irrelevant. The conservative elite’s "sickness" had already self-sabotaged the election all on their own, defeated in majoritarian collectivism.
Indeed, at the same time that the Democrats re-gained the majority, seven of the eight big state government marriage control amendments also passed. Yet, even
Using liberalism to fight liberalism, the conservative elite were blind to the very majoritarian collectivism that ultimately cost them the election. Worse: they betrayed the very God for Whom even most Christian conservative leaders claimed to be fighting. Turning to the false god of big socialist government as their "savior," they committed the sin of idolatry. Using sin to fight sin, they were blind to their spiritual arrogance. Truly, purporting to fight liberalism, they became even deeper liberals. Purporting to fight sin, they became even deeper sinners.
For Christians, the Bible explains the source of such spiritual "sickness," repeatedly decrying how frequently the leaders of God's people "have gone the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat" – i.e., politically leading God’s people into idolatry instead of trusting in the one true God. Undoubtedly, the conservative elite had profoundly embraced the false god of big socialist government with majoritarian collectivism - as their big government marriage control amendment proves. Since those elite had so unrepentantly miss-led conservative constituents into such anti-republican idolatry, the Christian view perceives that God simply gave up the conservative elite to their own reprobate minds - and let them have it. Consequently, the admitted majoritarian collectivists - the Democrats - returned to power.
It is true that Democrats have little interest in federal marriage control. And true conservatives - including conservative pro-polygamy activists - may be relieved about that fact. But majoritarian collectivism remains strengthened. The same majoritarian collectivist arguments employed by the conservative elite to justify marriage control had unquestionably provided the identical anti-republican arguments which Democrats will exploit to justify gun control.
The elite had thoroughly betrayed true conservatism by trusting in the might and power of the false god of big socialist government with its anti-republican notion of majoritarian collectivism. Contrariwise, the reason why true Christian conservatives believe in limited government, rejecting big government idolatry, is found in one of the most popular hymns in churches today - Zechariah 4:6, "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit saith the Lord."
Majoritarian collectivism – "two wolves and one sheep voting on what to have for dinner" – is anti-republican. Republicans acted anti-republican, so they lost.
But are the conservative elite willing to listen?
