Boehner: Dems' Job-Killing Small Business Tax Hike Would 'Wreck' Economy

GOP Leader: "It's time to say 'no' to increasing taxes on the American people. It's time to say 'yes' to cutting spending here in Washington, D.C."

WASHINGTON, July 27 /Standard Newswire/ -- At the weekly Republican leadership press conference, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) said that Washington Democrats' job-killing tax hike on families and small businesses would "wreck" our economy and deepen the uncertainty facing the nation's employers at a time when Americans are asking, 'where are the jobs?':

"Over the last 18 months, my colleagues and I have been listening to the American people. There are some things that are pretty clear when you listen to the American people. First, America is broke, and secondly, Washington is broken.  All this is a result of the irresponsible job-killing policies that are coming out of this Administration. They've created so much uncertainty in the country that employers are locked down, unable to invest because they don't know what the rules are, and they don't know what the tax rates are going to be.

"Then the Treasury Secretary was out there over the weekend saying that we have to raise taxes.  Listen, I think the American people understand that you can't raise taxes in the middle of a very soft economy.  If they attempt to raise taxes, they will wreck the little bit of a recovery that we have in fact seen.  It's time to say 'no' to increasing taxes on the American people.  It's time to say 'yes' to cutting spending here in Washington, D.C.  All of this would help eliminate some of the uncertainty that exists in our country."

NOTE: According to an analysis by the non-partisan Joint Taxation Committee, half of small business income in America will face higher taxes under President Obama's plan.
