TOPEKA, Kan., March 21, 2012 /Standard Newswire/ -- Randall Terry and his campaign team are now campaigning vigorously in Kansas, Wyoming, and Alaska for the April 14 Democratic Caucuses in those states.
The Terry campaign has sent his official "Declaration of Candidacy" to the Party Chairs of all three states, as well as the $1,000 filing fee for Alaska and Kansas. (Wyoming requires no fee.)
The Alaska Democratic Party has cashed the check.
Sources who spoke on condition of anonymity have told the Terry campaign that the Democrat National Committee is trying to persuade state Democratic officials in Alaska, Wyoming, and Kansas to keep Terry from participating in the caucuses. The DNC fears another strong showing by Terry, and does not want the President embarrassed or defeated in a Democratic caucus by Terry.
In the March 6 Oklahoma Democratic primary (a closed primary), Mr. Terry took 18% of the statewide vote, and beat President Obama in 14 counties. This was a major surprise to the Obama campaign, and showed serious discontent with the President within his own party.
Mr. Terry and his team are now campaigning vigorously in Kansas, Wyoming, and Alaska, using the same strategy and resources they deployed in Oklahoma. The Demographics and issues of those states could propel Mr. Terry to another strong showing, and perhaps a surprise victory in one of the caucuses. Hence, the Democratic National Committee is seeking to subvert the democratic process.
Mr. Terry States: "We can only hope that the State Party officials resist the pressure to betray their state Party rules. I have met all the legal and party requirements to be a candidate, and I am entitled to exercise my rights as an American, and as a Democratic Candidate for President. The conservative Catholic and Evangelical wings of the Democratic Party deserve a voice in this election cycle, and I am that voice."
