International Christian Concern to Host Annual Policy Day Event June 5th on Capitol Hill
Contact: Olivia Miller, Communications Coordinator, International Christian Concern (ICC), 301-859-3842, press@persecution.org

WASHINGTON, June 4, 2018 /Standard Newswire/ -- International Christian Concern's annual Capitol Hill Policy Day will focus on the crisis of violence in Nigeria brought about by both Boko Haram and Fulani militants. Numerous human rights organizations have reported 60,000 or more deaths since the conflict first escalated in the early 2000s, and ICC has documented 1150 deaths as a direct result of Fulani attacks since the start of 2018. Samuel Ortom, Governor of Nigeria's heavily affected Benue State, has called the persistent attacks by Fulani militants a combination of "ethnic cleansing" and "jihad."

Policy Day is an opportunity for the public to hear leaders and experts unpack the true nature of the conflict and support legislative and diplomatic efforts to improve life for the persecuted and oppressed in Nigeria. The event will draw particular attention to the suffering of Nigerian Christians and call for government action to guarantee their security.

Policy Day will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, SVC 212-10, First St NE, Washington, DC 20515, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is open to the public. RSVPs are strongly encouraged to ensure entrance through security and can be completed by visiting www.persecution.org/capitol-hill-policy-day.

Speakers will include Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, Kristina Arriaga, Vice Chairwoman for the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, Congressman Randy Hultgren of Illinois, prominent activists, victims and policy experts.

Policy Day will also include a distinguished panel to discuss the ongoing crisis and potential solutions from the Nigerian and American policy perspectives:
• Chris Meserole – Fellow, The Brookings Institution
• Joshua Meservey – Senior Policy Analyst, The Heritage Foundation
• Stephen Enada – Executive President & Co-Founder International Committee on Nigeria
• Nathan Wineinger – Director of Policy and Coalitions, 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative
• Matias Perttula – Advocacy Director, International Christian Concern
