WASHINGTON, Penn., March 20, 2025 /Standard Newswire/ — The following is submitted by Dan Corner of Evangelical Outreach:
Here is the passage in question:
"A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth." (Rev 12:1,2)
Read down to verse 14, the same woman is described:
"The woman was given the TWO WINGS OF A GREAT EAGLE, SO THAT SHE MIGHT FLY to the place prepared for her in the desert, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent's reach." (Rev 12:14)
That clarifies this is figurative language. Then later in Revelation the mystery is solved:
"The woman you saw is the great CITY that rules over the kings of the earth." (Rev 17:18)
The "woman clothed with the sun" is a great CITY and from Rev. 12:1 she has 12 stars on her head. Question: what area of the world gave us the Messiah? Obviously, it was Israel and Bethlehem his birth place is in Israel. Israel also has twelve tribes. The "city" (woman) is Jerusalem. That is a major blow to that Catholic title for Mary - "Queen of heaven".
Catholicism has also created their 'Queen Mother', and its related Davidic Kingdom rule in an attempt to support their Mary 'Queen of heaven' position. NOTE the impossibilities:
-
-
- IF such a thing existed, then WHY didn't David's mother rule next to him as Queen?
- WHY was "Queen" Jezebel ruling with King Ahab, when she was Ahab's wife - not mother?
- WHY was Asa's grandmother in a similar exalted position (before she was removed), instead of his mother (1 Kings 15:13)? The Catholic NAB says 'grandmother.'
- There is NO CONSISTENT line of Kings ruling with their mothers - none.
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, why would you think that such a non-existent earthly pattern from David would magically appear for the Mary of Catholicism in heaven, WITH NO SUPPORT FROM SCRIPTURE?
- NOTHING in scripture suggests because the Lord Jesus is "King of kings" that Mary is Queen of heaven. Art is not proof of Mary's sovereignty, nor anything else. The Catholic title for Mary, 'Queen of heaven', continues to lead people into idolatry.
- IF such a thing existed, then WHY didn't David's mother rule next to him as Queen?
-
The truth is: there are 25 thrones in heaven (Rev. 4:4), but none are for any female. Moreover, the only queen of heaven in scripture was a female pagan goddess in Jeremiah's day (Jer. 7:18; 44:17-25), who the sinful burned incense to and poured out drink offerings to.
Finally, Peter wrote two books of the NT teaching on grace, prayer, the devil, salvation, the Christian life, etc. and never mentioned Mary for anything, even in a tertiary way.
