WASHINGTON, Jan. 4 /Standard Newswire/ -- Concerned Women for America (CWA) looks forward to working with Congress on pro-family issues but is disturbed that a top priority for the new leadership is controversial legislation to fund experiments that destroy the youngest human beings.
CWA's President Wendy Wright said, "A new year and a new Congress brings promises of setting aside power-politics and profligate spending. Yet a priority for the new leadership is pouring more money into unethical, over-hyped experimentation that is already receiving vast sums from state governments, multi-millionaires and even federal dollars. The over-selling of embryonic stem cell research continues, at Americans' expense, to gain profit and power for the privileged by manipulating the desperate.
"CWA opposes squandering taxpayer dollars on immoral, unnecessary destruction of human embryos. Americans should not be forced to pay for experiments that destroy human beings.
"A divisive bill to fund unethical projects, which will not be signed into law, is not a good way to begin a new start. We hope that the new majority would direct their efforts to legislation that strengthens families, protects innocent human life and respects religious freedom."
