CLAYMONT, Del., Feb. 4, 2025 /Standard Newswire/ -- The Witness Foundation is proud to announce the return of the Active Witness Challenge (AWC) 2025, a nationwide movement designed to honor the legacy of the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches while mobilizing communities to take action for justice today.
Taking place throughout March 2025, the Active Witness Challenge virtually invites participants to walk, run, bike, or donate in remembrance of the historic 54-mile journey that paved the way for the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This year, the challenge is a call to collective action—an opportunity to bear witness to the ongoing fight for racial justice.
Danielle Marck, President of The Witness Foundation, emphasized the urgency of this year’s challenge:
“The march participants of 1965 risked their lives to ensure that we would have the freedoms we enjoy. But progress is not permanent. The very rights they bled for are under attack, and we must respond—not just with words, but with action. The Active Witness Challenge 2025 is an opportunity to pick up the baton they carried and move forward together.”
Inspired by the Selma march participants who endured violence and hardship in their fight for justice, the AWC is more than a physical challenge—it’s a spiritual and communal call to action. Participants will stand in solidarity with past and present activists by engaging in this meaningful journey while also supporting the ongoing work of Black Christian leaders, faith-driven advocacy, and justice-oriented programs.
Marck further stated, “This is not just about remembering history; it’s about continuing the fight. Faith without works is dead, and as people of faith, we are called to move—not just in spirit, but in action. Whether you walk a mile, complete all 54 miles, or make a donation, every step forward honors those who walked before us and invests in the future of our leaders.”
The Active Witness Challenge 2025 will launch officially on March 1, 2025, with early registration now open. Participants are encouraged to register, form teams, and prepare to take part in an event that will connect faith, history, and action powerfully.
