Verna Linzey is the biggest name among women in Southern Baptist and Assembly of God crusade evangelism and authorship on the Holy Spirit. Inducted into the International Centre of Biography in Cambridge, United Kingdom, and recipient of the Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018 posthumously, Dr. Linzey received the Best Non-fiction of the Year award for her book The Baptism with the Holy Spirit, which is used in 100 Bible colleges.
Linzey authored the world-renowned hymn O Blessed Jesus, which she recorded with the Triumphant Quartet and Sisters. Her recording of The Rose by Bette Midler was featured on the soundtrack for the major motion picture Iniquity. This motion picture is an update of the Bible story of David and Bathsheba in which Linzey offered a cameo as the lead juror in a court scene. An award-winning recording artist, Verna provides some of the special music in her own television series.
Linzey comes from American royalty. Her eldest brother is the late Rev. Franklin Hall, referenced as the "Father of the Latter Rain Movement in America," by the Creation Research Institute. Hall impacted Kathryn Kuhlman, Oral Roberts and many other evangelists whose names later became household names. Linzey and Hall led a "Hallelujah Parade" with Aimee Semple McPherson in San Diego. A distant cousin of Mother Maybelle Carter of the famed Carter Family, Linzey's and Carter's common ancestry merges in England just a few hundred years ago.
Linzey is even a closer cousin to President Andrew Jackson, and her son, former Air Force Captain James F. Linzey, wrote the Space Force Hymn Creator of the Universe. Her husband, Stanford E. Linzey, Jr., was a World War II hero as a survivor of Japan's attack on the USS Yorktown during the Battle of Midway. He worked his way up the ranks to Captain.
Linzey has sung with Pat Boone, Debbie Boone, Jimmie Rodgers, Kathy Lee Gifford, and has performed on television, radio, and served as Chairman of the World Council of Churches. Dr. Verna Linzey, a General of the Pentecostal Movement, is on the Modern English Version Bible translation committee.
