WASHINGTON, March 5, 2025 /Standard Newswire/ -- The Trump Administration recently announced they are revoking TPS status for the Haitian community on August 3, 2025 instead of February 2026.
Leaders will conduct a prayer vigil, news conference and demonstration on the southeastern steps of the United States Capitol on Thursday, March 6 at 1:30 PM.
Congress created Temporary Protected Status in the Immigration Act of 1990. It is a temporary immigration status provided to nationals of specifically designated countries that are confronting an ongoing armed conflict, violence, environmental disaster, or extraordinary and temporary conditions.

Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition who has been working with the Haitian community in Springfield, Ohio, states:
“We call upon President Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Noem to extend Temporary Protective Status to the Haitian community in America. Because of the gang violence taking place in Haiti right now and the unstable political environment, deporting Haitian families is literally putting ‘a target on their backs’ and putting their lives at risk.
“After spending time with the vibrant Haitian community in Springfield, Ohio, all of them expressed concern that if they were sent back to Haiti their families would face immediate violence.
“Many of the Haitian community have been in Springfield for years, and Republican Governor DeWine says this about their community: ‘Ohio is on the move, and Springfield has really made a great resurgence with a lot of companies coming in. These Haitians came in to work for these companies. What the companies tell us is that they are very good workers. They’re very happy to have them there, and frankly, that’s helped the economy.’
“Leviticus 19:34 tells Christians to treat immigrants as if they were native born and love them as ourselves. George Washington said; ‘The bosom of America is open to receive not only the Opulent and respected Stranger, but the oppressed and persecuted of all Nations and Religions.’
“America cannot abandon our core principles of freedom, justice and human rights and send Haitian families back to certain violence.”
