AACSB International's John Fernandes Receives Honorary Doctorate from Babson College

TAMPA, Fla., May 17 /Standard Newswire/ -- AACSB International today announced that its president and chief executive officer, John J. Fernandes, received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Babson College at the 2010 commencement ceremony on May 15, 2010.

Fernandes holds a bachelor's degree in business from Babson College and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Houston. He is also a graduate of the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government of Harvard University's Kennedy School of Business, and the University of Texas' Public Executive Institute.
Mr. Fernandes began his tenure with AACSB International in 2000 and has been instrumental in transforming the organization into the most respected global membership and accrediting body for management education.

Prior to AACSB, Mr. Fernandes served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for The Institute of Internal Auditors, and Vice President and General Auditor for New York City Transit. His experience includes staff and management positions with Exxon Company USA, Cameron Iron Works and Houston METRO.
Fernandes also has extensive corporate governance experience as a member of the board of directors and chair of the audit committee of a large health care system, as well as a member of the board of governors of Beta Gamma Sigma and the boards of directors of the Global Foundation for Management Education, the PhD Project, Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, and Tampa Bay & Company.
In 2006, Mr. Fernandes was recognized as the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship's Corporate Entrepreneur of the Year. He is also a recipient of the 2010 Consortium for Undergraduate International Business Education (CUIBE) Award for Outstanding Achievement in Support of International Business Education.
Fernandes joins a prestigious group of individuals who have received honorary doctor of law degrees from Babson College, including Generals James Gavin and George Akin; Senators Edward M. Kennedy, and John F. Kerry; journalists Robert Bartley and Natalie Curtis; scholars Alfred D. Chandler Jr. and Leonard Woodcock; and basketball legend KC Jones.
