WASHINGTON, Nov. 15 /Standard Newswire/ -- Henrietta H. Fore was confirmed today by the U.S. Senate as the new Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and concurrently assumes the position of Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance. She was designated by President Bush as Acting Administrator of USAID and by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as Acting Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance on May 7, 2007.
Fore is the first female Administrator of USAID and is responsible for managing U.S. foreign assistance, including support to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty and engaging in democratic reforms. She oversees a staff of approximately 8,000, of whom more than 75 percent of are working overseas in USAID field offices.
Prior to this appointment, Fore served as the Undersecretary for Management in the U.S. Department of State from August 2005 to November 2007, and as the Director of the U.S. Mint in the U.S. Department of Treasury from August 2001 to August 2005. In addition, she served as a Presidential appointee at USAID from 1989 to1993, first as Assistant Administrator for Private Enterprise and then Assistant Administrator for Asia. During this period, she founded and served as the first Chairman of the United States Asia Environmental Partnership, a coalition of business, government and community organizations in the United States and 31 Asian nations. Fore was also a founder of the Financial Services Volunteer Corps.
Earlier in her career, Fore ran her own company and served as Chairman and President of Stockton Wire Products, a manufacturer and distributor of steel products, cement additives and wire building materials for the U.S. and European construction industry. In addition, she served on the Corporate Boards of the Dexter Corporation and HSB Group Inc.
Fore has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Wellesley College in Massachusetts and a Master of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. She has also studied International Politics at Oxford University and studied at Stanford University Graduate School of Business. She is married and lives in Washington, D.C. and Nevada.
