Grand Canyon University Teams Up with Christian Film Big Hitters for New Theatrical Movie

PHOENIX, Feb. 18, 2025 /Standard Newswire/ — Grand Canyon University (GCU) is proud to partner with Pinnacle Peak Pictures, Canyon Productions, Great American Pure Flix and multi-award-winning artist Chris Tomlin to bring “The Last Supper” to theaters across the nation this Easter season.

“The Last Supper,” from the same producers of “God’s Not Dead” and “The Case For Christ,” is a powerful portrayal of the final days of Jesus' life with His disciples and depicts the ultimate act of love and sacrifice. The newly released trailer offers a first glimpse of the film, which hits theaters nationwide on March 14.

“‘The Last Supper’ is more than just a retelling of one of the most important moments in history. It’s an invitation to see who Jesus really is – His love, His sacrifice and His call to serve,” said GCU President Brian Mueller. “At GCU, our mission to serve others is a significant aspect of our educational journey and is derived from Christ’s life as a servant and His ultimate sacrifice. ‘For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many’ – Mark 10:45.

“To be a believer in Christ means to love and trust Him with your whole heart, mind and soul, and to love your neighbor as yourself,” Mueller added. “Through faith, we are transformed and empowered to live for Him, committing to a life that puts others before ourselves. That promotes human flourishing and is transformational to people and communities.”

GCU, which has gone from the brink of bankruptcy 20 years ago to becoming the largest Christian university in the country with more than 120,000 students, is a shining example of such transformation. On any given week on its 300-acre campus in Phoenix, GCU has more than 700 volunteer opportunities for students to serve the community across more than 40 different ministries, whether that’s volunteering with children, the elderly, refugees, those experiencing homelessness or providing household goods to families in need.

GCU is also serving the community through a groundbreaking 5-Point Plan that is bringing about transformational change by 1) renovating more than 500 neighborhood homes in the GCU community alongside Habitat for Humanity, 2) providing more than $15 million in free household goods to 74,000+ families in need in just the last two years through a partnership with CityServe; 3) making neighborhoods safer through a collaborative initiative with the City of Phoenix and local churches, schools and businesses; 4) supporting K-12 education by providing free tutoring to more than 6,600 K-12 students and nearly 870 full-tuition scholarships to low-income students in the Phoenix area since 2013; and 5) creating job pathways on campus and in west Phoenix that can change a family’s trajectory for generations to come.

Canyon Productions CEO Shawn Boskie, who is also a member of GCU’s Board of Trustees, said the university’s mission aligns perfectly with “The Last Supper.”

“Our partnership with Grand Canyon University is so meaningful to me precisely because the institution’s commitment to service, faith and education mirrors the very themes of this film,” said Boskie, who earned a degree in finance and economics at GCU after a 15-year career as a pitcher in Major League Baseball. “When I was a student at GCU, everything from an academic perspective was firmly rooted in Biblical foundation.”

In addition to a financial investment in “The Last Supper,” GCU is helping to promote the movie to the millions of students, families, alumni and partners of Lope Nation. The university is also proud that three of its alumni who are employed at Canyon Productions had a hand in various aspects of the film and are making contributions to the Christian entertainment industry.
