New Book from Redemption Press Offers Couples an Upside-Down Plan to Help Their Marriages Not Only Survive but Thrive

ENUMCLAW, Wash., May 27, 2020 /Standard Newswire/ -- In an era when more couples are choosing to stay married—the divorce rate had dropped to about 40 percent US*—couples facing marital struggles are trying some unorthodox methods to keeping their marriages together. And on the forefront of unconventional advice is couples therapist Jim Keller, who offers some creative approaches to building stronger marriages.

Many people enter marriage thinking they are marrying their soulmate. But too many years of poor communication, financial strain, infidelity, or unmet expectations can create thick walls between spouses that are tough to break down.

Most couples want a quick fix so they can move on with life. But licensed mental health counselor and ordained minister Jim Keller says the goal of marriage isn't to survive the bumps and stay married but to thrive as a couple while simultaneously growing as individuals. The path to get there, however, might be surprising. In The Upside-Down Marriage, Jim challenges couples to do the opposite of what they might think. Fight more. Have less sex. Stop spending so much time together. It sounds crazy, but by embracing a plan that seems upside down, Jim says couples discover an inverted path to a flourishing marriage.

Drawing from decades of experience as a marriage counselor, real-life stories from thousands of hurting people, and personal illustrations, Jim presents a creative but practical plan for a thriving marriage. Though not easy, it's a plan that works—a tender mixture of biblical truth and grace combined with hope (and a bit of humor).

Jim says The Upside-Down Marriage "takes a fresh look at marriage and some assumptions made concerning a healthy relationship that many times are not quite on point." Each chapter title is purposefully ironic, like "Fight More," "Have Less Sex," and "Stop Spending So Much Time Together." Jim says he uses the titles to capture the reader's interest and deal with everyday challenges in a fresh and encouraging way.

The Upside-Down Marriage will benefit married couples (and those soon-to-be-married) as well as mentors, counselors, and pastors. It's a practical tool full of wisdom and wit crafted to not only improve marriages but also help couples thrive for the long haul.
