MEDIA ADVISORY, Aug. 6 /Standard Newswire/ -- World Congress of Families Managing Director Larry Jacobs acknowledged adoption of Kenya's new pro-abortion constitution.

"Latest reports indicate the constitution passed by a vote of around 67%, in Wednesday's referendum," Jacobs observed, "this despite the fact that a March opinion poll showed 69% of Kenyans oppose legalized abortion and only 9% support it."

Jacobs attributed the vote in favor of the constitution to two factors. "Proponents were deceptive about abortion," Jacobs charged. "One section of the constitution acknowledges a right to life.  But another creates a mother's 'health' exception so broad as to create abortion on demand."

The Obama administration is reported to have spent upwards of $30 million to secure passage of the abortion amendment. "On the one hand, that's hardly surprising for the most pro-abortion administration in history," Jacobs observed. "But it was also in direct violation of federal law, which prohibits aid spending to influence foreign elections."

The World Congress of Families generated international support for pro-life forces in Kenya. In the past few weeks, more than 200 pro-life and pro-family leaders signed the "World Congress of Families Petition In Support of The 'No' Campaign, Kenyans Opposed To The Pro-Abortion Constitution."

Jacobs declared: "We were able to bring together an international coalition, including leaders from over 25 nations on six continents, among them leaders of the largest pro-life and pro-family groups in the United States." Undaunted by this setback, Jacobs pledged, "The World Congress of Families and its Partners will continue to work for life and the natural family, wherever they are threatened.  No constitution or set of laws can ever replace the need for action from religious and moral people of the world."
