JAKOBSTAD, Finland, March 16, 2012 /Standard Newswire/ -- ChinaAid founder and president Bob Fu's work on behalf of China's persecuted Christians was recognized Monday when he was awarded the Pro Fide Award 2012 by the Finnish group Friends of the Martyred Church.

The group's chairman, The Very Rev. John Candelin, former Goodwill Ambassador for the World Evangelical Alliance, commended Fu for his "many years of brave service for the persecuted Church in China." Candelin and other board members presented Fu with the award at a ceremony during a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the founding of Friends of the Martyred Church. Pro Fide means "for faith."

Two world renowned musicians, violinist Paula Sumane and pianist Reinis Zarins from Latvia, performed classical and folk music during the ceremony.

Fu was also invited to speak at a series of events in three cities to audiences totaling nearly 2000 people. During those events and during the award ceremony, Fu spoke about religious freedom in China.

Fu was also interviewed by two Finnish newspapers on the persecution of churches and the deteriorating state of freedom of religion in China, and how the international community should respond.
