Hershey, Penn., Jan. 29, 2026 /Standard Newswire/ — Steve Ulrich, author and editor, today announced the publication of a new book entitled, “English and Numerical Guide to Jennings’ Lexicon to the Syriac New Testament.” It was published and distributed on Amazon.com. The work was created to be an accessible resource for laypeople, Bible lovers, internet surfers, and curious individuals. The guide is based on the 100 year old Syriac lexicon by William Jennings, entitled, “Lexicon to the Syriac New Testament” The original work was published by Oxford at the Clarendon Press in 1926 and reprinted in 1962 by Oxford University Press.

One hundred years ago Oxford University Press published William Jennings’ Lexicon to the Syriac New Testament. A century later, as we mark its centennial, this book remains a concise and trusted guide for anyone studying the Peshitta and the Syriac New Testament. Jennings’ work was notably comprehensive for its time, incorporating new resources like the Philoxenian version, which included the Apocalypse (the Book of Revelation) and the four minor Catholic Epistles (2 Peter, 2 and 3 John, and Jude). Its significance was affirmed when Oxford saw fit in 1962 to reprint it.

Ulrich, said, “My hope is that this new English Numerical Index will expand the reach of Jennings’ Lexicon, further enriching the study of Syriac for many years.”

The Peshitta has always occupied a unique place in biblical scholarship, serving as the standard text for the Eastern Syriac-speaking churches and still holds special authority. Syriac, as a dialect of Aramaic, the language spoken by Jesus and his disciples, offers unique insights into the nuances of biblical terminology from a Semitic cultural perspective.

The English Numerical Index is a very special study resource that combines the best features of a concordance and a lexicon. This study aid will help the student in personal Bible study and provide a quick reference guide.

With over 3200 entries and almost 10,000 biblical references, it opens for the student the text of the Syriac New Testament. All entries that were in the original 1926 edition.
