ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 25, 2026 /Standard Newswire/ — Anglican Watch, the unofficial watchdog of the Episcopal Church, today called on leaders of the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests (SNAP) to act urgently to restore confidence in the organization following the resignations of more than two dozen long-term leaders. The resignations come after long-simmering tensions involving transparency, accountability, and allegations of misconduct by board members.
“It is important to remember that SNAP is, in many ways, the 800-pound guerilla of survivor advocacy organizations,” says Anglican Watch official Eric Bonetti.
“In recent years, we have been delighted to see SNAP expand beyond its original focus on Roman Catholic clergy. But at the same time, SNAP in recent months has far too often ignored the needs of abuse victims. Add to that recent allegations of unethical conduct by the organization, and we are deeply concerned that, absent immediate intervention, SNAP is on the brink of collapse.
“Moreover, any time a survivor’s advocacy group falters, it hurts similar organizations in this space. Yet if we ignore allegations of misconduct, we become like the churches that we criticize for kicking the can down the road in situations like this.
“So far, SNAP appears to be shrugging its organizational shoulders and saying, “Okay. See you.” But when so many long-time advocates depart simultaneously, it’s difficult to conclude that the problem rests with those who are leaving.
“No organization can survive when, as here, its leading allies and supporters no longer trust the organization or its leadership.
“We urge the SNAP board to act immediately to restore confidence in the organization,” concludes Bonetti.
