WASHINGTON, Jan. 5, 2026 /Standard Newwire/ — On the 5th anniversary of January 6, faith leaders plan to hold a public witness and prayer service on the steps of the US Capitol condemning political violence.
The vigil will be on Tuesday, January 6, at 11:00 AM on the southeastern steps of the US Capitol. (The House of Representatives side.)
The group will also be displaying a large banner with the message: “Let’s End Political Violence.”
In the wake of recent political violence, it is critical our nation and leaders seek God and publicly call for an end to violence and hateful rhetoric.
Alexei Laushkin, Founder of Kingdom Mission Society, comments:
“American national life depends on our political conflicts being resolved at the ballot box. The public also needs to trust that our elections are fair and secure. With political violence on the rise we are gathering on this significant day to pray for all of our elected officials, to stand up for secure elections, to continue to pray and act against political violence, and to urge all members to continue to respect the role of the courts in any disputes.”
Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Washington, DC based Christian Defense Coalition, states:
“In the wake of recent political violence, it is critical for our national leaders to seek God for healing and an end to the violence and hateful rhetoric.
“As Christians, we must stand against and condemn all acts of political violence and pray for God to unite a divided America. Violence and hatred are becoming too commonplace in the public square and it is imperative we seek God to bring hope and healing to our nation. We cannot be silent or indifferent on this issue.
“As Dr. Martin Luther King, who was himself a victim of political violence, said, ‘Hate begets hate; violence begets violence…We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love.’”
In May of 2024, Rev. Mahoney won an historic federal lawsuit opening up the steps of the Capitol and the Capitol grounds to peaceful public 1st Amendment activities after January 6.
