WASHINGTON, Oct. 6, 2025 /Standard Newswire/ — On Tuesday, October 7th, Mahoney v. U.S. Capitol Police Board will be argued at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
The hearing will be at 9:30 AM in courtroom 31. The address of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit is 430 E St NW, Washington, DC 20001.
Currently Rev. Patrick Mahoney is allowed to pray and demonstrate on the lower eastern steps of the United States Capitol after James E. Boasberg, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, issued a federal injunction allowing Rev. Mahoney to engage in 1st Amendment activities.
This case arose from Rev. Mahoney and two others being arrested by the US Capitol Police for peacefully praying on the lower eastern steps of the Capitol. (See photo.)
Currently the U.S. Capitol Police Board is arguing the lower eastern steps should be closed to all 1st Amendment and free speech activities.
Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states:
“The US Capitol Building, rightly called ‘The People’s House’, must be a place where all Americans are afforded the right to come and peacefully celebrate and express their First Amendment Rights and not be reserved exclusively for political elites.
“The First Amendment ensures every American the right to peacefully express their views in the public square free from government intimidation, harassment, or favoritism. This should be especially true at the United States Capitol Building.
“The Federal Court needs to send a powerful message to government officials the banning and prohibiting of peaceful free speech and religious freedom must never be tolerated.”
Rev. Mahoney is being represented by the Center for American Liberty.
