NASHVILLE, July 10, 2026 /Standard Newswire/ — GRAMMY-nominated artists Keith & Kristyn Getty today released a new recording of “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” the first single from their upcoming studio album, The Sing! Hymnal Sessions, releasing later this summer.
Warm, acoustic, and gently French-inspired, the track gives fresh voice to one of the Church’s most enduring hymns of prayer and comfort.
As the first release from The Sing! Hymnal Sessions, the project reflects the Gettys’ long-standing vision to help instill rich hymns of the faith in hearts, homes, and churches across generations.
“We are looking forward to working our way through most of the hymnal in the next few years, doing simple, hopefully beautiful recordings that will create a pathway between The Sing! Hymnal and your homes and your churches,” said Kristyn Getty.
“What a Friend We Have in Jesus” carries a personal resonance for Keith & Kristyn Getty, whose own roots trace to the same part of Northern Ireland as the hymn’s author, Joseph Scriven. Scriven penned the lyrics amid profound family sorrow and persevering prayer. Over time, it has become beloved around the world, crossing generations, denominations, and languages.
“It takes us where we are, with all our insecurities, and asks us to turn to the Lord in prayer,” said Keith Getty.
The track also includes backing vocals from the Gettys’ daughters, Eliza and Charlotte of The Getty Girls.
“What a Friend We Have in Jesus” is available now on all streaming platforms.
