WASHINGTON, Oct. 13, 2025 /Standard Newswire/ — Faith leaders plan to celebrate “National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk” from the steps of the United States Capitol building.
Group to display banner with the message, “Practice Free Speech” which was a cornerstone of Charlie’s work and vision.
The banner will be displayed on Tuesday, October 14, at 10:00 AM from the southeastern steps of the United States Capitol (on the House side).
Alexei Laushkin, Founder of Kingdom Mission Society, comments:
“The assassination of Charlie Kirk impacted the conscience of every American of good will. His life and legacy was built on the exercise of free speech and the exchange of ideas. On this “National Day of Remembrance,” it is fitting to draw attention to protect and defend the rights of free speech and free and lawful assembly.
“People of faith from calm and peaceful demonstrations to vigils need to be at the forefront of drawing attention to values that unite, speak to conscience, and transcend politics as usual.”
Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, adds:
“Perhaps more than any other person in America, Charlie Kirk understood the importance and practice of free speech and the 1st Amendment in the pubic square. Charlie Kirk would draw thousands of students on college campuses across the nation to engage in open, peaceful and spirited debate and conversion.
“Charlie knew the best way to move our nation forward and address critical political and spiritual issues was through the free exchange of ideas in the public arena. He gave his life for the principle’s of peaceful free speech and the 1st Amendment and it is something every American should remember on this very special day.
“I can hardly think of a better way to honor and remember Charlie Kirk’s life and work than going to the Steps of the United States Capitol Building and displaying a banner with this message…Practice Free Speech!”
Rev. Mahoney won an historic federal lawsuit in 2024 opening up the steps of the Capitol to free speech and 1st Amendment activities after he was arrested with two others for praying on the Capitol steps in 2021.
