ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 21, 2026 /Standard Newswire/ — Anglican Watch, the unofficial watchdog of the Episcopal Church, today blasted the Episcopal Diocese of New York and Title IV intake officer the Rev. Alison Quin, for refusing to follow the express provisions of the Title IV clergy disciplinary canons in a disciplinary complaint the organization recently filed with the Diocese. The complaint alleges that the Rev. Canon Carl Turner, rector of the storied Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue, violated church canons by falsely telling the public that the recent withdrawal of a sex abuse and defamation lawsuit against the church was made without an out-of-court settlement. Quin dismissed the complaint at intake, citing a stipulation between the parties.
“All involved well know that the intake officer neither has the authority to make findings of fact, nor is invited to do so under church canons,” said Anglican Watch official Eric Bonetti. “Moreover, as a former attorney, Quin damned well knows this to be the case. Her only authority under church canons is to assume the matter complained of to be true and, if so, to assess whether the behavior in question would constitute a material violation of the canons. Beyond that, she prepares a written intake report and sends it to the Title IV Reference Panel.
“Nothing more. Nothing less.
“To be clear, the Church Pension Group settled the matter on behalf of the defendants, Bonetti noted. “We object both to Quin’s playing fast and loose with the Canons, and to the use of a legal stipulation to engage in cover-up.
“Further, Anglican Watch is deeply concerned that Turner appears to have lied to Bishop Diocesan Matthew Heyd about this matter. Specifically, Turner appears to be the source of various fabrications about the victim in this case, which Heyd then relayed in writing to churches across the Diocese.
“Meanwhile, Turner and the STC wardens claim that a third-party investigation revealed no evidence of wrongdoing by the parish. While we find this conclusion laughable, it also fails to address the parish’s indisputable defamation of the victim.
“Thus, Turner and the STC wardens need to resign, effective immediately.
“We want to be absolutely clear: There cannot be healing in situations such as this absent disclosure and truth-telling. We will not tolerate lies, cover-ups, or refusal to follow church canons,” Bonetti concluded. “Nor is anyone who engages in such behavior doing themselves, or the Body of Christ, any favors by acting in this manner.”
Anglican Watch is the unofficial watchdog of the Episcopal Church. Founded in 2015, the organization addresses sexual and non-sexual abuse in the Episcopal Church and other faith communities.
