Oct. 15, 2025
CHICAGO, Oct. 15, 2025 /Standard Newswire/ — With great joy and gratitude to God, the Bulgarian community in Chicago is preparing to celebrate a truly historic event — the re-consecration of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church “Sv. Ivan Rilski” – Chicago on October 19, 2025.
After years of faith, perseverance, and united effort, the church will officially reopen its doors under the jurisdiction of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, marking a new and hopeful chapter in the spiritual life of Bulgarians in Chicago. This sacred renewal stands as a symbol of unity, devotion, and the enduring power of faith — a legacy we build for generations to come.
The celebration will also welcome the community’s new spiritual leader, Father Kiril Kirilov, who arrives with his wife, Presbytera Gyurgia. His coming represents a new beginning for the parish — he is the first priest to serve the church under the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. A graduate of the Sofia Theological Seminary, Father Kiril brings with him years of pastoral experience from holy sites in Bulgaria, including St. Nicholas Church in Petrich and the St. George Monastery in Hadzhidimovo.
Guided by faith and humility, Father Kiril comes with an inspiring mission — to open wide the doors of the church to all, especially to the youth and children, and to make St. Ivan Rilski Church a living spiritual center of the Bulgarian community – a place of prayer, education, and preservation of our heritage.
“Let us believe and never abandon our faith, walking together on the path of the Lord.”
The re-consecration ceremony will take place on Sunday, October 19, following a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy led by clergy of the Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Diocese of the USA, Canada, and Australia. All are invited to join in prayer, fellowship, and celebration on this unforgettable day for Bulgarian Orthodoxy in Chicago.
