Hekman First to Enter 2012 U.S. Senate Race
Contact: Tim Beals, 616-826-3822; randyhekman2012.com

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., March 4, 2011 /Standard Newswire/ -- Randy Hekman, former juvenile court judge and Michigan Family Forum founder, announces his candidacy for the U.S. Senate. He is the first Republican to officially enter the Senate race up for grabs as Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich) faces reelection.

"I'm excited to be part of the Senate race as the United States faces such monumental crises," said Hekman. "I want to make a difference for our country, and I feel a role in Washington during these difficult times is the best way to do that."

Hekman, whose campaign offices are located at 678 Front Ave. NW, Suite 177, in downtown Grand Rapids, pondered entering the race for several months before making the final decision.

"So many things came together as I made this decision," he said. "I've gathered a dedicated staff eager to enter this race with me."

Campaign manager is Ryan King (ryan.hekmanforsenate@gmail.com); communications director is Tim Beals (tim.hekmanforsenate@gmail.com); media liaison is Wanda Sanchez (wanda.hekmanforsenate@gmail.com); campaign advisors are Jim Hossler (jim.hekmanforsenate@gmail.com) and Mack Solomon (mack.hekmanforsenate@gmail.com).

Hekman's platform is built on four main planks: job creation, budget reform, entitlement reform and energy innovation.

"Each of these areas needs renewed focus, change, and growth. Most critically, however, is that we must drastically reduce the size of government now and together address the resulting human needs with significant growth in the non-profit sector. Unless we do so, the nation we love is heading to oblivion," said Hekman. "I believe I'm the person who can help bring healing to our hurting nation."

Hekman will hold press conferences in Detroit, Lansing and Grand Rapids on Monday, March 7, to announce his candidacy. Sites and times are listed below:

Detroit - 9:00 a.m., Park West Gallery, 29469 Northwestern Highway, Southfield

Lansing - 11:30 a.m., east steps of the Capitol Building

Grand Rapids - 2:30 p.m., River Room, Riverview Center, 678 Front Ave. NW

Hekman, 63, is father of 12 and grandfather of 19. He and his wife, Marcia, live in Grand Rapids, where Randy is executive pastor of Crossroads Bible Church. For more information, visit randyhekman2012.com.
